Algebra 1 is the foundation of middle/high school mathematics. This course can help students establish good mathematical thinking habits, strengthen the understanding of basic concepts, improve problem solving skills, and build a solid foundation for high school math classes. This course is for incoming 6-8 graders who have completed pre-algebra classes. Course plan: This course needs a total of 22 lessons to cover the entire contents, starting from summer until mid-December. After completing this course, the student can continue to take Geometry class in the following winter/spring session.

What is debate in High School like? There are many types of debate events such as Public Forum (the one I do), Lincoln-Douglas, Policy, and World Schools. Debate also offers many fun experiences, such as visiting colleges (Harvard, UPenn, UofM, UCB, UCLA) and traveling (Boston, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Las Vegas, Berkeley). General format: 2 versus 2 Topics are about current events and require both logic and evidence to construct arguments. Debaters have short speeches and “crossfires” where debaters can directly question the opposing team. At the end of each round, an adult judge will decide the winner. Drawing, Painting & Design - 2 class (age 7.5+, Saturday, 2:30-4:30pm) , we will focus on the application and practice of hand-drawn & painted skills in design. No drawing and painting experience necessary. The teacher will adjust content based on age, level, and interest.

Students will practice various types of writing, working through the writing process and receiving formative feedback on their work. We will also use class time to read short texts and excerpts to discuss and emulate style. Students should leave the class feeling more confident with their writing skills and with a toolbox of skills to approach any writing task.
